My 1984 Pontiac 6000 LE "check engine" readout gave a code for problems with the "vehicle speed sensor". I went to purchase the part and there are two possibilities...one mounted "on the transmission" and the other not....(didn't say where). The Haynes repair manual I have doesn't say a blasted thing about it at all...Does anyone know (1) how I determine where my speed sensor is mounted for my engine and (2) if it is mounted "on the transmission...is it in plain sight or do I have to drop the transmission pan.....The auto parts store only carried the one mounted on the transmission..(which I purchased and have now) but the other is a special order. I have the 2.8 V6 carbuerated "X" engine.
Thanks
Thanks

Possibly on the back of the cluster. Some GM's have them there.
That being said, this is where a Haynes manual becomes a prop for a chair
.
I would suggest an Alldata.com subscription or a factory service manual. Far superior.
That being said, try the links in my signature file for some ideas.
