Question

Engine size?

There's plenty of room on the 3.1 & 3.4 OHV engines. The 3.4 Twin Dual Cam engine is a different story.

replacing starter

Had the same problem with a 1993 Chevy/Lumina. Had to
remove the nuts from the 2 bolts on the front motor mount bracket that
pass through the frame just behind the crank shaft pulley. Then
used a piece of 2x4 and a bottle jack to raise front of engine up
about 2 inches. That gave me enough clearance to get the
starter out. Hope this helps.
