screaming alternator belt

After much stress and strain today, I changed out the alternator on my '91 grand am. I got everything lined up just the way it needed to be, but something's still not quite right. The darned thing now screams when I turn it on. I am pretty sure that's not normal... anyone have suggestions?

Couple of possibilities:

1. Bad alternator; not uncommon to get a bad one off the shelf depending on where you bought it. Some of the discount places have a high rate of bad rebuilds.

2. Something other than alternator; check bearings in tensioner and idler pulleys for your serpentine belt.

I agree with TowGuy. Did you change the belt as well during this repair?
