I had a similar problem on my dodge shadow 94
something got stuck in the cooling fan, removed it that fixed the problem.

You are certain it is the 2.2L and not the 2.5L? I think the 2.2 has carb/mechanical fuel pump and the 2.5 has throttle body and fuel pump in gas tank. The reason I ask is that this could make a difference as far as the behavior of how your car is getting gas and associated problems.

If car only overheats while parked but not at highwway speeds, means your fan is not coming on at all or when it should, most likely. It shows the radiator/circulation is okay because of the fact it can cool down with the highway wind blowing through the radiator. Do not neglect overheating on these cars. Easy to blow headgaskets in these little Dodges.
