i would like to know the torque for the head bolts on a 318ci? do you need gasket sealer on the metal intake gaskets and can i change a long shaft transmission to a short shaft?

Torque specs should be at www.autolibrary.org. If not, I recommend a service manual for your application.

Don't know why you want to swap transmission shaft sizes of the same tranny, no real advantage there.

Use Felpro gaskets for the repair. They will come with instructions as to what sealer (if any) is required. If not, they have a good techline that should be able to help you out. Sometimes Felpro just makes you use the "Spray Tack" sealant to keep the gasket in place when you do the assembly work.
