Ignition switch replacement

88 Buick Regal Custom 3.8L Auto w/OD. Ignition key just spins around, had to pull fuse to shut it down. Have a new switch but after several manuals, still havn't been able to locate release pin to remove old one. Even went as far as pulling the entire column (as indicated in one Chilton's manual) and still can't find the booger. Rebuilding an engine is easy compaired to this. Why do they (GM) make it so hard. Is it to preclude theft? Does anybody know the magic trick.

Check the links below in my signature file for some ideas. It is usually an area that you stick a pin or other piece of wire to release the cylinder.

The "pin" you're looking for probably has a phillips or torx head. It should be accessible after you remove the turn signal switch and maybe the hazard lights switch. Don't drop it! You'll spend another day trying to get it back out of the column.

Ignition Switch

Thanks, the info at http://www.autolibrary.org did the trick. They had a very accurate diagram of the ignition and switch. Thanks again, now all I have to do is get the whole thing remounted in the vehicle.
