Gas milage

I recent purchased a chevy pick up truck c-1500 with 4.3 V-6, auto transmission in it. It is a 1998. It has been getting 14 to 16 miles to the gallon does anyone know if that is about right? I was hoping for a little better gas milage.

Check the EPA's website to see what the original estimates are. Use that as a guide.

That sounds about right for a pickup truck depending on payload, load, condition and driving habits.

Make sure it's tuned up, the tires are inflated to the recommended pressures, it's not overloaded (or loaded when it shouldn't be...when not necessary) and it's aligned right.

Barring that, it is what it is. You don't buy a full size pickup truck for fuel economy, you buy it to haul .
