Can or should aluminum cylinder heads be repaired?

If done by a machine shop, yes. But for many applications, it is not worth the time or headache as rebuilts are available at fairly reasonable prices.

If the head's wiped, unless you're looking for numbers matching casting dates, pitch it for a new one.

What type of damage are we talking about?

Just got the head back from the machine shop, and apparently the damage wasn't bad--easily repaired, no internal cracks. The guys were debating at work that an aluminum head can't be repaired I said it could be. Hence the question. Thanks.
