1991 Ford Aerostar Starter Removal

I unbolted the starter from my 1991 Ford Aerostar 4.0 AWD XLT and then I couldn't get it out from under the van. The driveline, exhaust pipe, and cross member have all conspired to restrict the space available to remove it. Do I need to remove some of these obstacles and if so which is the preferred path?

I have checked your links, but they were not useful for this problem. I also have the Chilton's Manual for this vehicle. Chilton's describes the procedure for 3.0L model where there are no obstacles and the starter does just drop out. Not being a car buff I am unsure if there isn't a preferred method of removing these obstacles or if I am missing an easier way to do this.
