Question 1995 Rodeo Shifter Problem

Hi there!!!!!!! I have a 1995 Isuzu rodeo with the 3.2 v6 with automatic transmission. It has 95000 miles on it. Here is the problem I need help determining..... The shift lever button that you need to press in order to take the lever out of park intermittantly not wanting to press it. It is not going in a bit then sticking, it acts like it is locked out as if the brake pedal were not pressed telling it ok you can press in now. However if you keep trying to press the shift lever button repeatedly it eventually goes in...sometimes it takes longer than others. Is there something in the handle that can be repaired, could it be the brake actuator? is there a way to determine where the problem is without having to do major surgery on the car?

Has anybody had or seen this problem before or know what it could be? thanks!

Sounds like a sticky shift button itself or a bad release solenoid (if so equipped.

Take the button out and clean it. See if it improves. If not, change the button. I'd start there.

Check the links in my signature file below for some more ideas too.
