Charging system problems?

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus LX. About three months ago my charging system light would flash periodically and then go away. About four weeks ago the light started flashing on and off pretty much all the time. The (one year old) battery died after about two weeks of the constant flashing light. I bought a new battery and then took the car in to have the alternator & starter checked. Both checked out fine. So I have been driving with the new battery in the car since May 17 and it gave out again tonight. We tried to jump the battery but it only made it a few feet before giving out again. Do you have any ideas about what this could be? The alternator was replaced a year ago.

Either the alternator is bad or you have a loose connection somewhere.

You can do some basic testing yourself if you have a decent digital volt-ohm meter. Let us know if you have a meter & we'll guide you through the tests.

Otherwise, take it to a good shop for diagnosis.
