Checking the Timing

Hi All,
I am working aon a 83 s10 blazer with a 2.8l. I am trying to check the timing and am curious to what I should be grounding while checking the timing. Example: The DLC connector. Is there a connector down near the dis somewhere?\

The emission sticker under the hood has the timing procedure as does the shop manual or one of my links below.
