1991 Audi Transmission question

Yuck! my 1991 Audi 100 Automatic is taking off in 3rd gear, it will not shift down. I have an 1989 Audi 5000, automatic,I wonder if these Transmissions are interchangeable? The 91 will go in to the repair shop monday, just to have the Transmission checked out.I don't want to invest in a rebuild, I don't want to keep the car, but can't sell it the way it is. Thanks!!!

You got that right, Audi, yuck . Lackluster and expensive VW. No thanks .

That being said, check the fluid level and condition. If they check out, probably internal failure which will soak you fierce for a rebuild.

You can check with any junkyard that uses the Hollander system, and they can check for interchangability of the two units.

I'm for pitching BOTH Audis for something a lot better.
