1988 honda accord lx

i have a 1988 honda accord 4cyl engine with carb. it is a 4dr automatic, lx model. it seems to idle too high at times and when i step on the accelerator it goes back to normal most of the time.
when it shifts gears it does not shift smooth it kind of jerks and when i am stopped at a traffic light with the brake on with it in gear it wants to pull forward like it can't wait to get going. if i put it in neutral it doesn't do it. thanks for any help you can give me.

88 came both ways:

The LXi model was fuel injected (there might have been an SE model this year, which was also FI)

The LX and DX are carbureted and not worth a darn when the carburetors act up. Very complex, pesky and troublesome.

Start with my post "the Basics" and the links below too.

There is an idle stop solenoid at the side of the carburetor which may be causing some trouble....but you need to get into it first....
