I am getting horrible gas mileage in my car and am wondering what I need to do to try to fix it and if I can do it myself.

Start with a complete tune up, all filters, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, gas filter etc.

Run a code check to see if there are any stored trouble codes in the computer. If there are any, find the offending parts and replace them.

Pitch the O2 sensor for a new one, without question. Inflate the tires to the proper pressure as shown by Ford on the door jamb or glove box label. Get the vehicle aligned. Take out any excess weight stored in the trunk.
