I drive a 93 mazda b2200 pick-up. On cold mornings, mostly in the winter there is oil burning when I start my truck(cold engine). If I can keep the rpm's low (verging on stalling) there is no smoke, but at high idle it looks like the house is burning down. When I say there is smoke....believe me there is smoke! It stops after a minute or so. I've been told this is a problem with worn valve seals. I checked the engine compression...each cylinder is close to the other. The engine has approx 125k miles.
Can this be easilly repaired and is there any quick fix? Will a thicker oil reduce the smoke? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yesterday my oil light came on while on the highway. Oil level is OK and no leaks apparent. At first the light would be off during idle. It would come on between 1000 and 2000 RPM, and go out again right about 2100 RPM.
A very helpful person on this forum indicated that I must have the pressure mechanically checked, and indicated 3 current possibilities: (1) Bad Sending Unit (2) Weak Pump (3) Excessive Bearing Clearance.
My question is:
How safe am going to be driving this temporarily? I drove over 60 miles yesterday after this started (heavy rain with wife and daughter in tow). It seemed OK, but I'm worried I'm causing damage. This is my only mode of transportation, and I have to take this car in for body work as soon as I receive a check for body repair/rental from the insurance of the person who rear-ended me. With any luck, I could get this worked on at the same time.Read More
