El Camino heater core

El Camino heater core. Lots of time on my hands, wonder if I could change this myself & save $200? Looks handy to get at but if there's something I can't handle i'd rather pay rather than screw it up! I have a 1982 El Camino auto 350 (new rebuilt) w/air. I was told to bypass the heater temporarily, which I did. Now it drips after I run the ac, and just the top and very btm vents blow air! No main vents at all. Any advice would be appreciated sixes

It's not hard, just time consuming. It's inside the plastic evaporator box under the hood. The hardest part is breaking the gum type seal on the box. Make sure you get all the screws out and GENTLY pry up on the box to remove the top half.

After that, it's basically staring you in the face. The blower motor has to come out as well (ten 1/4" screws).

Consult a service manual for more information and photos
