charging trouble
you guys have been very helpful to me in the past and I return to the oracle once more.
My '89 Nissan Sentra has developed a charging problem. When at idle the radio loses all volume, the lights begin to dim, and basically anything electric slows down or stops. The alternator is only a few months old (6-10). The battery is of unknown age.
I spoke with one mechanic who told me the belt was probably loose. I have tightened the belt with no success.
Any thoughts or sugestions?

If the alternator is not a Nissan branded rebuilt, your problem is likely here. Auto parts store rebuilts can be of lackluster quality out of the box.
Check my post "The Basics". I have a charging system test. Tell us what the results are and we'll go from there.
