88 cavalier wont stay running

i have 88 cavalier that i cant keep running.
if i pour gas in the the carb in the same place the injector shoots it the car will start and if i keep feathering it once it starts i can keep it running but if i let it go to idle it stalls.
i changed the injector $70 thinking that it was my problem.
no such luck it still does the exact same thing
anyone with suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I've seen that once before in a Chevy truck and it wound up being the computer calpak. Go to your autoparts store and buy a code reader for the car. It should cost around $20.00. Read your codes and see if you can eleminate that as your problem. Guessing will wind up costing you big bucks. Trust me, you will use the code reader as long as you own the car.
Also go to any other link here and look at a response from Joe F. he's got some very good links on the basics.

Sounds like a fuel problem....the injector wouldn't solve the problem, it's only commanded by the other inputs given to the computer .

Check the fuel pressure with a hand held gauge. I assume you have good spark all the time?
