Unhappy stalled

94 topaz was goinging down the road and acted as if out of gas. Wouldn't restart, started after towed. Replaced fuel filter. Any other checks before taking out for test and getting stuck out on the road with this happening again.

Start with my post "The Basics" below.

Next time it quits on you, check for spark at the plugs. If you have none, suspect a bad TFI ignition module on the distributor (the subject of a class action settlement with Ford in some cases) or a pickup in the distributor.

If the spark is good, suspect a fuel problem. The interia (safety) switch which shuts off the pump in case of an accident could have tripped (perhaps by towing the car it jostled it back to the reset position). Your owner's manual will detail where it is....typically under the trunk carpet trim on most Fords.

If that checks out, get a fuel pressure gauge and check your regulated fuel pressure versus the specs in the link I have below.
