jeep trans

My 1987 Jeep YJ Wrangler (4.2 litre engine, 5 speed peugeot ba 10/5 ) Recently put in cluster gear and input gear, new bearings and seals. Reinstalled transmission - now stuck in reverse. Any ideas before I have to pull the transmission again? Things to check etc? Thanks Tim

I assume that if you're rebuilding your own transmission, you have the OEM manual there.

Sounds like something was put in wrong. What does your manual have to say?
Most internal tranny work requires special tools and is best left to a tranny shop. You can do the R&R yourself and save some money that way.

hi Joe
The transmission "rebuild" was actually done by a guy who has a shop. After reading your bio, guess you understand, this is my first vehicle, sort of learn by doing in my dad's shop and with guys he knows who have shops specializing in different types of repairs. It was the putting back in that I guess caused the prob, he wasn't home today and I hoped to get some insight. Since he's home now, he says I probably just have to pull the back plate and realign. thanks any way. tim
