Sensors-Thermastate-Housing?

1989-Ford Tempo-2.3 litier.
What are the two sensors on the housing, and their funtions? the one on the top broke and will need replacing. Thanks for any input. George Burda.

the one that commonly breaks is the cooling fan switch which turns on the cooling fan when the engine reaches a certain temp, i believe the other sensor if a single wire is for your guage or hot light, but if a two wire it could be the coolant sensor that tells the computer what temperature the engine is running at, the cooling fan switch is rectangular shaped and the cts is more round shaped. both have 2 wires.
