trailer wiring - couple of weird things are happening

Trailer #1 - both turn signals work, running lights work, no brake lights on work on the trailer. All lights work properly on the car.

Trailer #2 - Running lights are always lit, even when car is off.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You need to track down a wiring problem, either on the car, or on the trailers....sounds like it's going to be on the trailers. If you have a 4 wire pigtail, the wiring should be as follows: green wire to right trun and brake light, yellow wire to left turn and brake light, brown wire to running lights, and white wire to ground.

more info needed

What kind of vehicle, does it have seperate brake and turn lamps, the differance in trailers sounds like incorect wiring on one or both green is right turn and stop (**if the brake and turn use the same bulb on both the car and the trailer) yellow is left turn and stop(**) brown is tail and clearence lights black(sometimes white) is the ground. If the car or the trailer has seperate stop and turn lamps you will need a logic box to make them work with the dillerent type system.

Thumbs down

Do not assume. Call the maker of the trailer harness (Hoppy/Litemate, Valley, Reese, Grote, etc) and ask their tech line to help you.

Most of these companies have knowledgable folks there that can tell you what goes to what. I know Hoppy does.

This is the universal way to wire a standard 4 wire pigtail for a trailer...across the board. If there is a logic box to add to the equation, follow the manufacturer's directions. These are only needed if the turn signal bulb is not the same bulb as the brake light on the vehcle.
