Patching a pop corn ceiling

Patching a pop corn ceiling
I have to do a small plumbing repair that requires opening a small section of ceiling between 1st and 2nd floor. The problem is how to best repair the section and match the popcorn and color of the ceiling without repainting the entire span of 2 rooms where the repair will be done. (family room and kitchen) Any ideas?

After you patch the hole and mud and tape the seams, prime the area with a good sander/primer/sealer.
Then get an aerosal can of matching popcorn ceiling texture, and spray it to match the rest of the ceiling. (Practice on a piece of cardboard.)
Then you can try to spot paint it. If the ceiling has a fairly fresh paint job, and you can match the paint, then you'll be o.k.
If it shows badly, however, the only way that it's going to ever look "right" is to repaint the whole ceiling.
Good Luck!
