Arching a doorway

I would like to arch an opening between a front room & dining room. The opening is 7'3"H x 8'4"W. How do I go about framing the arch, and how should I trim the face of the arch in wood to be painted trim color?
Thanks,

Jon

jonvz,

Hello & welcome to the forums. Arched doorways I work on are covered in drywall. They're framed using a stepped series of studs with some kind of thin sheeting material, I've seen the faces made of plywood, osb, or luan sheeting. If you're wanting a wood face that will be painted, I think I'd go with 1/4" luan. It's actually generally used asa floor underlayment, but it usually has very nice grain to it and I've seen folks make furniture out of it. Just a thought, if you need some more insight on the framing end of it, post back & I'll try to give a better answer over the wkend.
