Unhappy Plaster Over OSB?

Hi, I had a garage built and have put up OSB (chip Board) on the ceiling and walls, I would like to spray Popcorn Texture on the ceiling and spray the Textured scraped look on the walls. My question is can I do this on OSB, also I have primed the OSB with 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Primeblok OIL base Primer...thanks Greg B

Gbridgeman,

Hello & welcome to the forums.

With that primer coat I wouldn't think you'd have any problem getting the texture to stick. Can't say I've ever tried this, but I'd say yes it will work.

That being said, it you've got a scrap piece of the osb & a little primer left, why not make you a test piece to see how it adheres for you. Just a thought.

Best of luck & pls post back with your results.

I think that typical "popcorn" texturing materails sold at the home centers is not very durable. It may chip easily on the walls. Also, the OSB texture may show through the finish coat.

If it was me, I'd lath the walls with metal lath and use traditional three coat plaster.
