Plaster ceiling under tile?

I'm having my bathroom plastered this weekend. The room is drywalled, including the ceiling. I may put tile on the ceiling, which I'd glue to the drywall. If I do, would there be any reason to plaster the ceiling, or would I be better off just leaving it as is (drywall only) before putting up the tile? If I don't need to plaster the ceiling, I'd rather not so I don't have to pay for it. Thoughts? Thanks.

If you're gonna have tile in your shower, you don't want drywall in there at all. I'd recommend putting up CBU, durarock & hardiboard are a couple of the brand names. Other areas of the bathroom are ok to tile over sheetrock, MR board is preferrable, but regular rock will do as long as it is properly primed & sealed prior to doing the tile. It should be taped to give you a totally flat surface to set tile on.

If you're gonna do the tile, why not mud & tape the bath yourself to save some bucks. It's really not rocket science, just takes coats & patience.

Hope that helps. Best of luck.
