Cracks in plaster

Is there an additive that I could add to my scratch coat or final coat of plaster to prevent cracks from appearing? it is on a small divider wall (two blocks 8 x 8 x 16 high) that has plenty of footing as well as being filled with premix (grouted). I built a barbecue grill and put a sand finish on it but after several months there were small cracks on it, i just wanted to prevent this on my wall.
Thanks

There are polymer additives that can be added to plaster. I do drywall work not plaster so I'm not really up on all the latest techniques in that field.

Might want to take a look around on the USG site, here's a link

Other option would be to talk to a local tradesman.
