Smile Painting after Plastering

Appreciate some assistance.

Have an area (6x8') on a finished garage ceiling damaged by water (it is dry now). The old plaster was removed and new plaster boards were put in. The area will be plastered with about a 3/8" layer.

My questions are:

1. How long does this area have to dry before covering it with a primer coat?

2. How long after the primer coat is applied can the area be painted?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Whether you are using drywall mud or plaster, hard to tell by your post, you can usually wait over night and then prime, but... It depends on your situation. If you live in a particularly humid area or it is cold then it might take longer. I think the primer will dry in a couple of hours, then again depends on the weather.

Thanks for the reply.

Using plaster.

Some of it was done about 6 hours ago, and it still feels very wet to the touch. Might have to wait a couple of days...

Just wanted to have an idea.

Thanks again.

Here is some information from USG, makers of plaster. The recommendation is to peform a 24 hour moisture test.

Hope this helps.
