Central Heating Gun Barell Vs Copper Vs Plastic

Hi
I am about to replace a red/white deal t and g floor with a solid oak floor. The question relates to the central heating pipe which is at present under my existing floor it is gun barrel (steel/iron) its been there for 35years.Should I replace it with copper or plastic before installing the new floor. The pipe appears to be in good condition. What are the consequence of mixing copper with steel/iron pipeing ? What is the life of gun barrel?
regards
Joe
