Unhappy

We are currently in the process of remodeling the bathroom and after removing the sink/faucet, a leaky drain pipe went undetected for over a week. Now there is a huge water stain on the ceiling below the bathroom. We have stopped the leak but the ceiling still appears to be damp and there is a HUGE water stain. Also, there is a slight "bulge" to the ceiling in the middle of the stain. What is necessary to repair this correctly? Do I need to remove the ceiling and replace it in that spot or can I just somehow patch it and paint over it?

First you need to determine what the bulge is, just the paint?, The sheetrock paper or the sheetrock itself?

Get a scraper and carefully scrape the edges of the bulge, to determine what it is bulging, if it is just the paint you can scrape it off and feather the edges with sandpaper or joint compound, prime the stain with kilz and repaint, if it is textured then more prepping may be nesasary to match the texture.
