priming necessary?

I just had the walls/ceilings skimmed and lightly textured in my living/dining room. Is it absolutely necessary to prime the walls first, or can I just paint them. Using a light tan on the walls and white ceilings. THe walls are white right now (after the texturing).

Absolutely prime them. The new mud will soak up your paint like crazy. You will save time and money primming first. Oh yea, and it will look better too.
