Plaster Ceiling Repair - Circular/Swirl Textured Design
I painted a plaster ceiling in my home which has a circular/swirl textured design. I rolled the whole ceiling with the exception of the areas around the light and the smoke detector. Those areas were done with a brush. I gave the ceiling 2 coats of paint (1 coat a day). The day following the second coat I noticed the circular/swirl design which was in the areas around the light and the smoke detector had disappeared. The area is now flat/untextured and the circular/swirl pattern is gone. The two areas really stick out when you look at the ceiling. Can anyone tell me what I can do to repair the areas to bring back the texture and the circular/swirl pattern. Also, can some tell me what might have caused this to happen as I have a few other ceilings in my home with this pattern and would like to aviod this problem in the future. Thanks in advance.

I've never seen paint make your type of texture disappear. Sometimes by design, circles around light fixtures are left smooth. You may be able to use thinned down joint compound to duplicate the texture.
