replacing large area of ceiling, insulation above

I have a large 4x8 area of ceiling I need to replace but above it it insulation. I started to remove the drywall and there is plastic behind it and then the insulation. The problem is, if I remove this area of ceiling it looks like all the insulation will fall in (the plastic won't hold it). Any ideas how to handle this?

If you have access in the attic scoop up the insulation [if blown] and set it out of the way. Batts are even easier to move. Be sure to whear long sleaves and gloves. A mask might be nice.
