Plaster missing behind tub surround

I have removed plastic wall tile so I can install an acrylic tub surround. While scraping off tile, some of the finish coat of plaster ( 1/16 inch thick) also came off. Plaster is missing for about two feet above the back of tub and below the faucets on end of tub. Is it necessary to "re-finish coat" these spots so tub surround has solid and even wall to adhere to?

I don't know if it is strictly necessary a little heavier coat of adhesive might be enough but if you want to fill in the missing finish almost anything will do. New plaster but it can be base coat Durabond90 or 60 or whatever # new plaster finish or EasySand. I would hope you don't use conventional drywall mud. if any moisture gets behind the surround that will fail the fastest of all.
