Joint compound texturizing over wallpaper residue?

We removed wallpaper from our kitchen and plan on texturizing the walls and ceiling, then painting.

My question is - the wallpaper left a rough, dry layer of adhesive residue. It is very difficult to remove - even with Zinsser glue remover. Can we just put the joint compound over this or will it have to all come off?

Thanks much!

It is best to first remove all the glue. It often takes a combination of scrubbing with cleaner or thinner, scraping and sanding. I know it isn't any fun, do the best you can and then mud over the rest - it will probably be ok.
