DIY Veneer Plaster?

I've read about veneer plaster over blueboard. I'm wondering if that is beyond the skills of the average do-it-yourselfer. I'm about to remodel a room in a century home. Going to put up drywall, but like the idea of a slightly "imperfect" finish to match the style of our old farmhouse.

Most of the reading I've done about veneer says to hire someone to apply. I've hung a fair amount of drywall, but I don't know anything about veneer.

Comments or thoughts???

Thanks!

Not a good idea for a first timer. plaster sets up quickly and dries hard. No sanding once you are done. If you want a textured wall you can put on regular joint compound. This way you can play with it and get the result you want. You can use a skip trowel method with 95% coverage, sand it when your done and paint.
