plumbing access panel
It appears as though the drywall/tape behind my tiled shower is getting wet. The texture of the drywall has become very smooth, is bulging, cracking and crumbling. I cut an access panel right behind the water pipes and shower head control. The panel is about 1' x 1' and is a mess. How large should it be and how do I best cover the hole but maintain an access panel?
And, why is some of the drywall grey inside and some white? Does the grey mean it's gotten wet? THanks

I think by code access panels are suppose to be a minimum of 16" square. IMO constructing a liitle door to cover the hole looks best. Some just use a piece of plywood screwwed over the opening.
Sheetrock is light grey on the finish side and darker grey on the back. It is possible one of the panels got hung backwards [no big deal] While sheetrock is wet it will appear darker but once dried it should be back to its original color but with the adition of water stains.
