still seeing tape

Was wondering if I'm still suppose to see the tape after 3 coats of mud.

Thanks!

still seeing tape

I think I'll go over it again with my 12" knife. Everything looks and feels good, but the paper tape is showing leading me to believe the mud is not thick enough. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

I'm no drywall expert, but none of them have had a chance to chime in yet. I know enough to know that you shouldn't see the tape after three coats of mud. Yes, too little mud makes sense, but I don't think I could possibly apply mud thin enough to not have the tape hidden in three coats. Best bet is to sit tight and let one of the experts set you straight.

I don't ever recall being able to see the tape after 3 coats. Where you sanding between coats? Although the tape needs to be covered with mud the main concern is whether or not the taped joint is smooth and level. If it is finished well and the paper atleast has a little mud covering it, I would be inclined to go ahead and paint it.
