Replacement drywall vs. plaster

Had a drunk driver crash into our century home. Engineer and contractor agree that several walls will need removed inside and out, and several others will need old plaster removed and replaced. My question: is there any reason to have new walls installed using plaster/lath instead of drywall? My thought is that since old plaster is being removed (repair is impossible), installing drywall in its place is no less "historic" than installing new plaster. Drywall has some advantages in ease or repair, etc.

What are some thoughts?

Drywall would defenitetly be easier/cheaper.

Unless your home has no historic value I would opt for plaster, especially when someonelse is doing the work and paying the bill. While the new plaster may not be original to the house it is similiar to original. If you paint an old house with the original historic colors - the paint is new but still resembles the old.
