Joint vs Drywall Compound

Help, I have removed 3 layers of wallpaper from a wall in my living room and the drywall needs some repair completed. Nothing too big just some standard holes fixed as well as some gouges where the scraper took parts of the wall out. While I was at work yesterday my roommate applied joint compound to repair parts of the wall and fill in some spots. I was going to use drywall compound on the wall for this part but he claims they are similar and both will work for what we are doing. Is he correct or should I only use Drywall compound and not Joint compound for minor repair.

Both should be about the same thing, just a minor difference in consistency, if at all....

As Zster said, this is fine. You may, however, find that you personally prefer one or the other.
