redoing a wall with textured paint

i had my walls done with texture paint to cover imperfections since surface is not smooth. Now, I want to "cover" or "change" that surface. What is your advise? Can I just cover it with "hardyflex" magnesium boards and paint over it? This way I have a smooth surface. Does that make sense? Thank you for your advise.

Welcome to the forums! Changing from textured to smooth is a big job. Not only will you have to compensate for electrical outlet depth, but base molding, crown molding, window and door molding, etc. You are talking of a major undertaking for DIY if you plan on application of an over layer. You could sand off the texture or learn to like texture. Good luck with your project, and post back if we can help further.

You could sand and scrape the texture and then skim coat the walls with joint compound.
