All purpose vs. Lite compound

I've used all purpose/ready mixed compound from start to finish before but I recently heard about this lite compound stuff. Which coats should it be used for and what are the benefits?

Lite weight joint compound sands a little easier than the all purpose. It can be used for any of the coats after the bed coat.

Is it worth changing in your opinion?

If I only had need for 1 bucket, I'd get the all purpose because it will hold [glue] the tape better. If your job is big enough for multiple buckets of mud, I'd switch to the lite weight after taping.

I have problems with the lightweight, Mark...I put it on, I sand, it vanishes!

I do think it's a lot dustier than regular.

Connie - I think you are using too much muscle

Personally, I'd rather apply an extra coat of mud than do a lot of sanding.

I also have a problem with Lite JC, if you look at it.....it will nick. Very soft stuff. Also takes longer to dry. I admit though to using it for the final coat when I have a big job.
