i need a refresher course on repairing small hole in drywall from door knob, and large hole from boys wrestling.

Small holes can usually be fixed by placing some support behind the wall and patching with joint compound or spackle or, better, a small piece of drywall cut to fit and screwed in place.

The big one might require cutting out the damage and replacing the drywall. Then you'll have to mud and tape the seams.
