Question

Refrigerator water line located leaked multiple times which has resulted in an area of the wood floor rotting all the way thru the 3/4" board. When in the basement, you can look up and see the rotten area in the ceiling which of course is the floor when you are on the main level where the refrigerator sits. I'm going to cut out an area slightly smaller then 18" x 18" so the ends of the replacement piece of wood will sit in the middle of the 18" apart studs. So far does this sound like a reasonable and safe fix? If so, when I cut out the existing piece of damaged flooring sitting on top of the studs how do I cut it out on the end that sits midway over the stud since I don't want to cut into the stud itself? What tool or saw would accomplish this with a nice even cut? JBA

JBA -

I am going to move your question to Wood Floors - you may get a response there.
