level walls

Hi, I removed some paneling above and around a fireplace and found the wall is not flush or even with the brick fireplace.
Any thoughts on what to use to level the wall? It is about 1" out of level from right to left with the bricks.

Thanks.

The best way would be to tear out the drywall/plaster and shim or otherwise correct the framing and then hang new drywall. You could also build it up with a setting compound like durabond but that also would be a lot of work.

Are you sure you can't live with it as it is?

And you've got two posts going; this one and one in Carpentry. Double posting only confuses our already feeble minds.
