Quantity of Jt Compound for Texture Ceiling

I have a 200 SF new ceiling that I want to do a "knockdown" texture on. How much joint compound will I need? I have about half of a 4.5 gal pail left of compound after mudding joints. How much water do you add? I read somewhere you want it to be the consistency of pancake batter. I like my pancakes kind of on the thick side. Do you want it runnier than that? I'd like to ounces/gal of jt compund, or ounces/pound of jt compund.

There are a number of variables that need to be addressed before we can answer your question.

1) what coverage of knockdown are you going for?
2) what kind of spray rig are you using?
