Popcorn Ring

Popcorn Ring

I just cut a new 4" hole in my ceiling to move a ceiling fan over about a foot. Anyways, I used a hole saw and saved the piece to fill in the old hole. What would be the best way to fill in the ring gap in the popcorn? Should I remove the old layer of popcorn and re-texture it to blend it in with the old?

If you want the patch to be invisible, then yes, you will need to scrape, patch and respray.

It would be a good time to remove the popcorn on the whole lid and modernize.

I don't like doing it but I've made similiar repairs on rentals using caulking. Caulk the circle joint and the screw head and dab with a sponge to give it a little bit of texture. It will show! but it won't jump out at you. Sometimes you have to do what the customer wants since he's the one with the checkbook.

It is best to scrape, mud and tape prior to texture although IMO tightcoat has the best suggestion
