Skim coat over acrylic paint

Do I need to do anything to a wall painted with acrylic paint before skim coating?

No, it should be good to go although a quick scuff sand wouldn't hurt. If the paint has a sheen - make sure you sand first.

The courser the sandpaper the better. I'd go with 80 grit. Expalining it further, "scuffed" latex allows the mud to adhere much easier to the wall when applying it with a knife. You'll see.
