stripe in center of wall

At one time our bedroom walls had a 6 inch "border" that ran around the walls about halfway up. When my wife had the walls repainted by a friend, they removed the border. However, they forgot to take all the paste off, but went ahead and painted over it. Now, she wants me to repaint the room, but I want to correct the "paste stripe". Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

With a little luck, sanding will fix it. If not, you'll need to apply some joint compound. Does the wall have any texture on it?

We had this same problem and what we did was use this line as a guide to paint a stripe. We used painters tape and put the edge of the tape on the line from the boarder. We painted the stripe a color that matched the wall and it looks great and covers up and ugly line on the wall. We get tons of compliments and people always ask how we got the stripe do straight???
